• Over-the-Counter Medications (OB) -- Many commonly used over-the-counter medications can pass directly through the placenta and harm the baby. Below is a list of some over-the-counter medications that can be taken without consulting your doctor.  Caution should be exercised when using herbs and homeopathic remedies.  For example, many cough and cold medications contain alcohol that should be avoided in pregnancy.
